Bed & Breakfast Concept
It was in the 1970s that the concept of Bed and Breakfast (or BnB) started in Scotland. BnB is a small lodging establishment that offers overnight accommodation and breakfast, but usually does not offer other meals. Gradually, America and other countries in Europe followed suit. In India, the BnB concept may be pretty recent (having been introduced only in 2005), but already it's gaining popularity with appreciation coming in not just from within the country but even abroad. The Indian State Government gave the green signal to many Indian families with the right infrastructure to offer BnB -- the idea being to offer accommodation to the budget tourist, both from here and across the globe, and give people a chance to interact on a much closer, informal level with the host's family, away from the confines of the formal five-star set-up.
The advantage of this new and financially viable concept of BnB prompted Charlotte and Vinay Chopra, a young couple with two grown-up children (boys) -- Chirag (21) who has completed a diploma in Airport Management & Customer Relations and who is getting trained and helping his mother Charlotte Chopra in running the BnB, and Namit (15) who is presently studying in a school of repute and recognized worldwide and who has the ambition of becoming a Pilot some day -- to offer their home for tourists visiting Delhi
Prior to this, Charlotte's 16 years of work experience as executive secretary has seen her work in MNCs besides international travel agencies like SITA World Travel and Interglobe Air Transport. It was a desire to move on and do something new that prompted her to give up her job and start a BnB at her home
Started in 2007, Charlottes Bed and Breakfast promoted by the Delhi State Government and licensed by the Ministry of Tourism was earlier called Charlotte’s Inn. And in just 5 years now, it is already well recognized not only in India but even abroad for achieving mostly five-star reviews from tourists who have stayed here.
For running her establishment, Charlotte also gets the support of her husband, Vinay, who is presently working for a semi-government company based in New Delhi. Despite his hectic work schedule, Vinay is also a professional Table Tennis player and travels all over the world to represent Delhi State and India in Veterans TT tournaments besides coaching college students at the Jesus and Mary College and the Delhi University.
Thanks to their extensive travels across the world, the Chopra couple has imbibed positive values from different cultures. Consequently, running a BnB is proving to be an enjoyable experience for them, helping them offer perfect hospitality to tourists and making friends with people who come visiting and staying with them
