Activities
Gulmarg (or "Meadow of Flowers") is one of Kashmir's premier tourist destinations and the only resort with two tourist seasons. The Summer season lasts from May 15 till October 15, when the mountains recieve the first winter snows. The Winter season proper starts from mid-December when snowfall magically transforms Gulmarg into India's most vibrant ski resort. Skiing and snowboarding can be enjoyed till the end of March.

Summer

Gulmarg is the most laid-back of Kashmir's resorts in the summer. It is the ultimate place to unwind.

Golf:
Gulmarg boasts of the highest 18-hole green golf course in the world. The historic Gulmarg Golf Club was established in 1902 and offers golf equipment on hire, professional instruction, and short-term memberships.

Long walks:
Gulmarg has a number of walkways that lead through charming meadows and pine forests, along mountain streams and over snow-capped peaks to be rewarded with with sweeping views of the Great Himalayas from Nanga Parbat and Harmukh to the twin peaks of Nun Kun. Leopard and Strawberry valleys are excellent for picnics.

Horse Riding:
The easiest way to experience all the charms that Gulmarg has to offer is on horseback.

Gondola Lift:
The Gulmarg Gondola, Asia's highest and longest cable car project, provides a thrilling ride from the the Gulmarg Meadow [2650 m] through pine-clad slopes to Kongdori [3050 m], and continues above the tree-line to Apharwat [3950 m].

Film-spotting:
Gulmarg has always been a favourite Bollywood location and a number of cult classics have been filmed here. One can stay in the famous 'Bobby Hut' named after the hit movie, or visit the Shiva Temple which features in the Rajesh Khanna-Mumtaz hit song 'Jai Jai Shiv Shankar'.

Fishing/Angling:

An Angling Park has been developed in Gulmarg, while excellent fly-fishing is available on the Ferozepur Stream.

Sight-Seeing:
The St. Mary Church [1894], Shiva Temple, Maharaja's Hut, and Lake and Childrens Park are well worth a visit. The Circuit Road offers unparalleled views of Nanga Parbat, the second highest peak in the world, and panoramic views of the entire Kashmir Valley.

Winter

Skiing & Snowboarding:
Gulmarg is the ultimate skiing resort for all levels of skiers, with runs ranging from gentle beginner slopes to the massive [2 km+] ski run accessible by the Gondola.

Ice Skating:

An ice-skating rink has been recently developed in Gulmarg for enthusiasts.

Heli-skiing:

Advanced skiers are ferried by helicopter to otherwise inaccessible Himalayan peaks for the ultimate skiing experience.

Apres Ski:
Hotel Highlands Park is the natural destination for the winter sports crowd due to its central location and its apres ski reputation. The classy lounge and discotheque are the winter action hotspots.

This splendid wildflower-carpeted meadow offers unparalleled views of the Great Himalayan range and the Kashmir Valley.

Alpathar Lake:
Alpathar Lake is a picturesque alpine lake lying at the foot of the twin Apharwat peaks [4511 m].

Baba Reshi Shrine:
Every year thousands of devotees, regardless of faith, visit this shrine dedicated to a renowned saint who died here in 1480.

Drung:
Drung lies 3 km beyond Tangmarg and offers excellent trout fishing beats, ancient temple ruins and pleasant meadows.
