River Mountain Retreat
(Kudiyalla) Rishikesh, Uttarkhand.
Have you ever thought of combining a soft and lazy beach holiday on silver sands with a jungle adventure in the foothills of the Himalaya? Where you can camp out like a "shikari" of old but be armed with binocular and camera, and a campfire when the black night falls quickly in the Indian jungle?

On an enchanting site, at the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayan Mountains of Uttarkhand, nestled on the banks of the glacier fed Upper Ganges River, lies the RiverMountain Retreat.

Hidden amongst a ridge system of awesome cliffs, crags, high pathways, white beaches, virgin forest, rare wildlife, orchards, and glowing night skies, the experience at the RiverMountain Retreat is unparalled and memorable!

The Leopard Longhouse
The Leopard Longhouse is a simple longhouse using the concept of the tribals of the northeast and the Dyaks of Borneo and Iriyan Jaya. The sunken bath is specially created and designed to offer a view of the river below and the hills across. The Longhouse, with its beautifully carved and well worn central pillars in its verandah, offers grandstand views.

The Leopard longhouse is so named because it features a full length leopard mural painted by Canadian Mural artist Susanne Pink,. Using a unique technique similar to the Cistine Chapel in Turin, the lime surface was painted upon while still wet in order to absorb the colours, then left exposed to the elements for a while to give it a weathered look. The leopard mural is a unique feature of the Longhouse. Another wall features similar work, also reflecting the local biodiversity - the Mahseer, river eel and the catfish.

The Luxury Swiss Cottage

These tents hark back to day of yore. The soft and comforting feel of a light canvas interior which will be your home, is a special experience offering comforts and settings unimagainable in the complete wild. The Luxury Swiss Cottage has your own extension veranda an bath.

Other accommodation
We also have smaller but comfortable tents pitchable at different spots as needed. These use sleeping bags and foam mats and a common toilet. We also offer bivouacs or machan camp outs in deep forest across river on request and with a wildlife guide. Sitting up with a tape recorder to record the sounds of the jungle is one of the most rewarding of experiences. Coming back to the city and playing back the sounds of the jungle at night is one of the best memories to bring back!

The camp chef prepares continental, authentic local cuisine and also bkes fresh breads, rolls, and pizzas over a driftwood fired clay oven. A special BBQ is the highlight of the evening.

Game Fishing
Angling or Fishing as it is simply called, has been and is an admirable sport, although for the discerning few and rightly so, for only a few know how to reall pursue and land a fish. And even they know that they don't know well enough just how to land one every time.

The two timeless sporting fish in India have been and still remain, are the Trout and the mighty Mahaseer, which incidentally is the best fresh water sporting fish in the world. Each has its own peculiarities, its preferred bait, and preference of waters it inhabits. But each has a thrill and experience of its own.

Besides, he varied joys and excitement of a fishing trip in wild places is most definitely a panacea for all wordly cares and troubles, and if you are hooked once to fishing, we promise you will be hooked for life.
