Every old house comes soaked in myth. So a century old house had its fair share. In the 1890s the beautiful wife of a British army officer fell in love with the area and decided to put out roots. The entire hillside belonged to her. She chose the best spot to site her house – which is today Two Chimneys. A retinue served her well. She was a statuesque woman, wore breeches, rode horses and was never seen in public without her double-barreled gun. The locals – in awe – dared not cross her line of vision. When she died in the1940s, she left the house to her faithful retainer. It was from his descendants that we got the house. Legend envelops the place. It is said Gandhiji had tea here in 1936 on his way to the Bhowali sanatorium to see Kamala Nehru; and Jim Corbett was a friend of the lady of the house and often came visiting. We have converted the dainty cottage into a beautiful living space, a home away from home for you. Treat it as a bed & breakfast or a lodge where you can spend a few days de-stressing. We are in Nainital, but comfortably away from the clutter.

Revel in water, sit on the wooden deck, and let nature seep into you. The central space of the house, sun kissed in winters and shaded by trees in summers, with a view of both valleys, is like a magnet, making it impossible to move away. Perfect in the heat of summer; and with its roaring bonfire perfect on winter nights. Drink and dine here in big groups, or as intimate couples. We have created niche space for our visitors across the cottage. You will be comfortable, be it the terrace, the pool or the reading room.

The lower terrace takes its name from the flat piece of land next to the Nainital lake known, since colonial times, as the Flats. Great for children to frolic and for adults to loll on the grass in the winter sun, and in the summer to nap in the shade of the majestic deodar (mountain cedar). Read a book, play cards, or wait for the gorgeous red billed blue magpies to flash past. We created niche spaces across the cottage so you can pick your corner and enjoy it as much as we did, creating it for you. Be it a dip in the pool, a book read or sun-bathing, you can enjoy all of it across our property.

The front upper terrace split into four has an unusual tree growing – the European Plane – a cousin of the famed chinar, gifted by a friend in France. The hedge of raat ki rani is intoxicating on most summer nights and the gentle splash of the water of the fountain is mesmeric. A perfect place to sit and relax. We created niche spaces across the cottage so you can pick your corner and enjoy it as much as we did, creating it for you. Be it a dip in the pool, a book read or sun-bathing, you can enjoy all of it across our property .

Clash with friends over a game of pool or ping pong, or cheer your favourite team, or watch old classic movies (and some new ones too!) sitting around the television set. The warm completely wooded shed has the feel of an old clubhouse where you can just chill on your own or with friends and family. A point on the property where you will experience the best sun-set, breeze on your face and also the pool. Experience the true beauty of the Kumaon Hills.
