Alappuzha, with the Arabian Sea in the west is interlocked with a large number of canals, bridges, lagoons and lakes. Referred to as the Venice of the East, it’s a district of natural beauty. Alappuzha is a small district in Kerala, and is an ideal place for backwaters cruise. The lakes are used for water transport of cargo and passenger. Alappuzha is also famous for its boat races, houseboats, beaches, marine products and coir industry.

Alappuzha Beach: This is one of the most popular beach among the tourist. The Vijaya Beach Park is an added attraction of the beach. It is a picnic spot with children’s park and boating facilities at Sea view Park. There is also an old lighthouse.

Nehru Trophy Boat Race: This popular event is held on every second Saturday of August at Vembanad Lake. This prestigious cultural event of Kerala has been attracting people from all over the world. This trophy named as NEHRU TROPHY was donated by the late Prime Minister of INDIA Jawaharlal Nehru to the winners of the first boat race, on his first visit to Kerala in the year 1952.
