State of Patiala. Three hills house this town, one has the Chail Palace
on it, the other has the Village and the last one houses the Snow View
Mansion. The highest cricket ground in the world is
located here and was built in 1893. Then there is a wildlife sanctuary with
Deers and Birds a few kilometers away. Kufri : A small village with the nearby
countryside offering great trekking including to the nearby Mahasu Peak. Well
known for it's skiing. Himalayan Nature Park
: The National Park lies
nestled within the folds of the beautiful Kully terrain. It is the largest
protected area in the state. Lush coniferous forests, verdant meadows, strewn
with exotic flora, snowy peaks and pristine glaciers make it an ideal Himalayan
retreat. It has great collections of unique birds
and animals. The secluded Sainj and
Tirthan valleys are home to a plethora of fauna - wild mountain goats like the
bharal, goral and serow, the brown bear and predators like the leopard and the
elusive snow leopard. Different varieties of pheasants - monal, khalij cheer,

Chail Camp, Chail
Enroute to the frontier of civilization
in the Himalayas and back, the Banjara Camp at Chail is a welcome
break, a transit camp, if you like. At 2,000m, Chail is just 45 kms from the
state capital, Shimla. Another picturesque, thickly forested tract of
land, Chail owes its allegiance to the Maharaja of Patiala who wanted to build
his palace on a hill from where he could look down at Shimla. Chail is a few
hundred meters higher, and so suited him perfectly. Click
