No- AT-KT10 If
you have often wondered where you could think green thoughts
in a green shade, look up to a forest canopy almost as old as
the hills, look down into the translucent depths of a pristine
river and above all have a full view of wildlife you should
head to the Kabini River Camp. Once
the hunting lodge of the erstwhile Maharaja of Mysore, Kabini
is today rated among the top five wildlife resorts in the world
by Tatler's Travel Guide, a prestigious British Travel Magazine.
It is very close to Nagarhole National Park and is a paradise
on the banks of the river Kabini. Accommodation You
can choose from a wide range at the Kabini River Lodge. Colonial
style:
Plush luxurious rooms in the colonial style. There are two blocks
of 7 twin-bed rooms each, with modern facilities that have been
built to resemble the Maharaja and Viceroy buildings, located
in the camp. Riverside:
You could choose to fall asleep to the soothing lullaby of the
river and arise the next morning to watch the first rays of
the sun dance over the water. There are twin-bedded riverside
cottages with attached baths that overlook the river. Tented
Cottages: If you would prefer the wilds, you could
live outdoors in the comfortable tents, with attached modern
baths, overlooking the river. Food:
Dine out at our Gol Ghar. The resort takes special care to cater
to the varied tastes of an international clientele as well.
The buffet meals include Indian and Continental menus. The bar
is another special feature with a variety of brands enough to
cater to your distinctive tastes. Corporate
programmes:
Kabini is an excellent venue for corporate programs. Innumerable
multinationals and top Indian corporates have held meetings,
seminars and training programs here, combined with wildlife
safaris and outdoor activities. The Viceroy's Bungalow can accommodate
40 persons for this purpose. Activities
A
wildlife safari is a must at the Kabini River Lodge. Take the
jeep safari through the Nagarhole National Park where you are
bound to see herds of elephants grazing, wild dogs, bisons, deer,
peacocks, wild boars a variety of birds and maybe if you're lucky,
those elusive big cats: the tiger and the panther.
A
safari on elephant back is another experience altogether. You
feel as if you're sailing on a slightly turbulent sea and yet
you know you are in a forest. Since the animals are used to
having elephants around, you don't disturb them either.
Spend some time in the watchtower and watch as a mind-boggling
variety of wildlife comes down to the water hole.
Ride
a coracle. An ancient form of transport in South India, the
coracle is made of animal hide and requires some skill to manipulate
and some daring to attempt.
A motorboat cruise would give you a chance to take a look at the
wild life, aquatic birds and even a few crocodiles. Sailboats
and paddleboats are also available.
Another
must do is nature walk for that feel of the forest which would
long linger in your memory.
