RAMGARH BUNGALOWS
Code No- AT-UP14
In
the foothills of the Himalayas, The Old Bungalow- 1830, and
The Writers' Bungalow -1860, are located in the fruit basket
of the Kumaon region. These heritage structures once housed
the British and Indian officers as well as their wives who travelled
on horseback and palanquins.
Many
writers and thinkers have been drawn to the beauty of Ramgarh:
Sri Aurobindo and Narain Swami established ashrams, Rabindranath
Tagore wrote some of his major work-even contemplating founding
Shantiniketan here; Mahadevi Verma made it her home and some
of India's leading industrial families continue to have sprawling
orchards. From May to September the orchards by the Writes'
and Old Bungalows hang with Apricots, Plums, Peaches, Pears
and Apples. Ramgarh
makes an ideal base for long walks or drive to discover the
surrounding areas of Mukteshwar, Bhimtal, Almora, or even for
golfing at Nainital and Ranikhet. It
is better to be in love with the changing seasons than to be
hopelessly in love with spring' they say. And perhaps The Ramgarh
Bungalows are the perfect place to experience the variety
of seasons. Here, the sky mirrors the changes as the clouds
rise and unveil the snow peaks. Sunshine and rain wash the wooded
hills. The
Bungalows have been restored and refurnished in the old
world charm of rural England. Home made biscuits and tea by
the fireplaces make for memorable 19th century moments which
will be missed by the times to come. |
