SPA
Spas have their roots in ancient towns famed for the healing powers of their mineral waters and hot springs. Popular belief has it that the origin of spa dates back to the Roman era, when soldiers of their legions fatigued by wars, would take to rejuvenation, relaxation and treatment of sore wounds through water. Hot, natural spring water was considered to be the best cure for wounds and tired muscles.
The legionnaires, hence, started building baths around naturally found hot water springs or hot water wells. These baths were popularly known as 'aquae', while the treatments undertaken at these aquae were called 'Sanus Per Aquam' - of which SPA is considered to be an acronym - meaning health by or through. The word "spa" conjures up images of long days filled with mud baths and meditation classes, exquisitely prepared spa cuisine, and fragrant eucalyptus groves. Although today's spa is an interesting combination of ancient traditions and modern mechanical wonders, however, the heart of the Near spa, just as the ancient spa, is water and the rituals that evolve around it and that's where it gets the name near which means “Water".
