Located in the lush green Mandakini valley, the Himalayan Eco Lodge in Kund, is one of the most spectacular locations for a fun-filled holiday. The life giving waters of the mystical Mandakini cut a wide swath through valley, washing over rocks and boulders on their relentless journey to meet the Alakhnanda at Rudraprayag. From the lodge one gets a wonderful view of the snow clad Kedar peak that forms the backdrop of the Kedarnath temple. This valley is steeped in history and mythology and the temples that dot this area stand as the living testimonials to its rich culture and tradition. In addition to the Kedarnath temple, which is among the most important temples in the Hindu religion, there are a number of other temples like Tungnath (the highest Shiva shrine in the world), Madhyamaheshwar, Triyuginarayan, Guptkashi, Ukhimath, etc.
In addition to the spiritual vibes that one feels here, the beauty of the valley is unsurpassed. Chopta, referred to as the "Mini Switzerland of India" is a short drive from the lodge and the undulating bugyals (high altitude meadows) here and the stunning views of the big Himalayan peaks are a testimony to its name. From here one could head off on short day hikes to Tungnath and Chandrashilla Peak and the view of the Himalayas from the peak makes the trek well worth it. On the return from the trek one could relish the piping hot Maggi soup and stuffed paranthas in the small dhabas at Chopta!!! |

Another place well worth the visit is the high altitude lake, Deoriatal. This lake involves a short drive and a trek for an hour and the sight of the lake with the Himalayan peaks in the background is mesmerising. From here one feels that the majestic Chaukhamba peak is at arm's length and the reflection of the peak in the lake's waters is a sight worth travelling any distance to see.
Another interesting activity in this area is a bird watching trip in the forests that surround this place. The place is home to the largest population of endemic species of birds and therefore it is always possible to see a wide variety of birds anytime of the year. The bird watching trips are led by an expert who would show you the extensive flora and fauna that has made this area its home.
