Welcome to The Best Budget Hotel in Rishikesh
The name Terrakotta (from terra cotta, Italian for “baked earth”) came to us in a moment of inspiration, to stand for a deep connection to the earth and a grounded, humble approach to hospitality.
The idea was to have a home away from the hustle-bustle of the city, somewhere close to nature but still easily accessible. Tapovan was the perfect place - we fell in love the first time we dipped our feet in the Ganga on the banks adjacent to the magnificent Laxman Jhula.
The design was to be classically European, reminiscent of the red brick houses that dot the English and French country side. Over time we felt like sharing our experience with others who, like us, were seeking rejuvenation and inspiration - a respite from everyday life.
We wanted the rooms at Terrakotta to feel like home. A place to look forward to after a long journey - a place of rest after a day of exploration. This is why all our rooms are furnished with silk-embroidered 100% organic cotton percale. Hand-block printed 100% linen cushions and runners add a touch of European subtlety and style to the decor. One of our first guests told us that she woke up happy for the first time in several months when staying with us. We consider this the greatest compliment.
The contours of the Tapovan hills made over millennia are not easily tamed. We let nature’s hand guide us as we designed spaces that were each unique but without compromise. Spacious, fresh, well-lit and full of natural light - these were the guiding principles for us when we went to the drawing board.

Terrakotta is eponymously named after the terracotta bricks that clad its exterior. Built along the contours of the Tapovan valley, the hotel is meant to invoke a simpler time - when brick and stone held their own, and rustic texture triumphed over polished glass.
Let there be light
Fresh and airy inside to compliment the majesty of the valley outside. A feeling of positivity, openness, and a sense of space - this is what we aimed to create at Terrakotta.
Monsoon - our multi-cuisine restaurant and cafe - features a wide variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes inspired by our travels.
Crossing cuisines is no problem for our internationally-trained team of chefs - they are as deft in serving Spaghetti Aglio e Olio as they are comfortable crisping Butter Naans in our Tandoor.
