Walterre
Villa, Four Bedroom Villa, is 20 minutes from Dehradun town, located
on a hilly ridge on the town's outskirts. Waltèrre is approximately
36 km from the Jolly Grant Airport, 13 km from railway stations,
10 km from the Clock Tower. The hill station of Mussoorie is 45
minutes away.
By
Train: A 5½ hour train journey from New Delhi on the morning Shatabdi
as well as the afternoon Jan Shatabdi. The overnight Mussoorie
Express leaves Delhi at night and arrives in Dehradun the next
morning. An overnight train from the New Delhi Station in Delhi
departs late evening and arrives at dawn in Dehradun. There are
also direct trains from Mumbai, Kolkata and Allahabad. It is recommended
that train tickets should be booked well in advance. By Road:
A six hour car ride from Delhi via Roorkee or a seven hour drive
by the scenic Poanta Sahib route from Delhi. Dehradun is also
connected by daily flights from the Capital. Currently Jet Airways,
Kingfisher and Air India operate flights to Dehradun. Pick-ups
from the train station or the airport can be arranged upon prior
notice..
The
villa Just 8 kms north of the famous garrison town (and now capital
of Uttarakhand) of Dehradun, Walterre Villa is a retreat, at once
elegant and discreet, with some of the world's most gorgeous mountain
views. The villa has four luxurious bedrooms, where the mood is
stylish and leisurely. All the rooms have antique four-poster
beds. Waltèrre welcomes you to its breezy, sunny, open spaces,
and its exquisitely designed, sumptuously welcoming interiors.
Whether cosily ensconced in the lovely fire-lit drawing room or
surrendering yourself to nature on the sun-splashed, pillared
upper verandah, you can feast your eyes on the lush greenery,
the clear blue skies and the majesty of the surrounding mountains.

Walterre
Villa has four exquisitely appointed rooms: the Peacock,
the Oriole, the Mallard and the Tragopan. Each room has
a distinctive, antique four-poster bed, and its own ensuite
bathroom decorated with charming period tiles. The walls
are adorned with rare natural history lithographs from the
owner's collection, sourced from all over the world.
The
Peacock The Peacock Room has the colours of the bird
reflected in its furniture. The canopied bed, writing desk
and dressing table are inset with glass paintings depicting
the God Krishna. It has a private sitting area overlooking
the front garden.
The Oriole An entire wall of the Oriole is frescoed
with paintings of birds done in the 'chinoiserie' style.
The room overlooks a steep hillside which comes alive with
birdsong. The large en suite bathroom with its distinctive
bathtub adds to a comfortable and luxurious experience.
The
Mallard As the name suggests, this room is decorated
with paintings of ducks and other water-birds. It has its
own unique four-poster bed and a large Sri Lankan period
chest made of different kinds of wood.
The
Trangopan This large room with a four-poster bed and
a large sitting area is ideal for small families with young
children. A delicate Chinese painted screen adorns one wall.

Electricity
and Air-conditioning Each room is equipped with air-conditioning.
However, we ask you to be sparing in its use and, to preserve
resources, not to leave the air-conditioning on whilst your room
is unoccupied or when doors and windows are open. You can adjust
the controls to a suitable evening temperature if you wish to
use the air-conditioning while sleeping - we recommend you maintain
the temperature between 19-21 degrees with low to medium fan strength.
All rooms are heated in winter. Power outages are common in India.
Waltèrre has a dedicated generator which turns on after a few
minutes in the event of a power-cut. You will also find candles
and torches in your room.
Communications
The house has wi-fi and internet and all mobiles work in the area.
Library
You are in the house of a publisher. The Waltèrre Library holds
several books to suit all kinds of readers. Feel free to browse
through all books at any time during your stay. We appreciate
your leaving them behind for future guests to enjoy. English newspapers
are available.
Towels
Bath towels are provided for your use, but for the sake of the
environment please re-use them unless they are soiled. Towels
are changed every two days. If you require a change, please leave
your towel in the linen basket.
Water
It's precious everywhere, and Walterre Villa is no different.
Please use it sparingly.
Sunburn
The tropical sun is strong, even in the cool hills, and when deceptively
hidden by clouds. We advise applying a lotion or cream with a
high sun protection factor (spf) and avoiding overexposure to
direct sunlight, to prevent sunburn and sunstroke.
Yoga
Walterre retains the service of a Yoga expert, who provides both
short and long term lessons. Please let us know if you want to
use his services. Payments are made directly to him.
