Brunton Boatyard
Kochi
(Cochin) Kerala

Brunton
Boatyard, Fort Cochin- as the name suggests, fort cochin
was one of the earliest citadels fo European settelment on the
Indian shores, The Fort protected the city from invaders who
could come by land or sea. nothing remains of the Fort except
the name. It is a city rich in history. It is believed that
Cochin has played host to visitors from ancient times which
include the Chinese,Arabs,Jews and later the Dutch, Portuguese
and British. Cochin has been influenced by its visitors and
even today it stands apart from any other city in india. The
Brunton Boatyard a 19th centuray boat yard converted into a
hotel. Named after the original boat building yard that existed
at this very site and even more interesting because teh hotel
has been built and designed in exactly the very same manner
as it would have been built some 150 years ago. It's an amazing
architecture taht blends so elegantly with the cochin skyline.
There is a special mustical aura about the place that takes
you back to the days or the "Raj".

Entering
the lobby and reception area, the foremost feeling is one of
open space, beautifully lit by natural light. The high arched
wooden ceiling and terracotta floors tell the story of Brunton
Boatyard’s colonial heritage. Photographs and prints of the
old boatyard and old Dutch maritime maps decorate the walls.
Faces of long gone dignitaries proffer Victorian scowls. Authentic
antique furniture and chandeliers complete the picture. Only
a reassuring glance at the electric lights will tell you that
you're not in the 19th century

There
can be no better location in the whole of Cochin than at the
Brunton. Right there at the Harbour mouth, the Delta of teh
famed Keralan Backwaters and the Indian Ocean every room promising
