The family-run hotel started off in 1997 with five rooms in simple traditional style. Designed in the architecture that is characteristic for Kerala, the rooms are comfortably spacious and have tiled roofs and wooden ceilings to keep out the summer heat.
In 2001 four more rooms were constructed completely out of bamboo, keeping in tune with the idea of ecological friendliness. The bamboo rooms have been so designed to beat the summer heat and offer pleasant coolness without the help of modern building techniques.
From 2007 onwards a new set of 16 rooms has been added to the hotel premises. The new rooms are even more spacious and comfortable. The expanded facilities make it possible to offer accommodation for group tourism.
All 25 rooms are equipped with ceiling fans, air-conditioners and have attached bathrooms with round-the-clock hot water supply. |

Kerala is widely known for the various culinary influences that have left traces in its cuisine. Fort House Restaurant tries to reflect part of this variety by offering a selection of dishes particularly characteristic for the Latin Christian style of cooking in Kerala. The Latin Christian cuisine consists mainly of sea food because the people of this community have traditionally resided near the coast. For those of our guests, however, who prefer vegetarian food we offer a number of traditional dishes including Thali meals. A speciality of Fort House preparations is the use of freshly ground spices and coconut milk.Sea food served in Fort House includes a large variety of fresh fish such as seer fish, pomfret, grey mullet, shrimps, prawns, squid and lobster. The recipes used by us differ from standard restaurant preparations. They are mostly original creations by Mrs. Nova Thomas, many of our guests have confirmed – that they bear the flavour of home-cooked food. This also applies to the meat dishes: Our Portuguese-influenced pork vindaloo, beef chops and baked chicken have been popular Fort House specials for quite some time.
The impression of home-style food is reinforced by the relaxed and homely atmosphere of Fort House Restaurant. Far removed from the sterility of air-conditioned restaurants in many Indian hotels, our guests enjoy the openness of an eating space shaded by a traditional thatched roof looking out on an enchanted compound with mango trees, herbal plants, flowers, clay and granite sculptures. |

Kerala is a small green strip of land on the southwestern coast of India , sandwiched between the Western Ghats mountain range and the Arabian Sea . Mythology states that Kerala was created by the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the Preserver and one among the Trinity of Hindu Gods, when he threw his axe into the ocean, and the latter returned to give rise to the land that was given the name Kerala.
Today Kerala is one of the smaller Indian federal states with a population of just over 30 million people who live in a lush landscape amid palm groves, rice fields and backwaters.
In historical times the area used to be known as " Malabar Coast ". Centuries of intensive contacts with foreign civilisations have created a fascinating blend of cultures. Portuguese, Arab, Jewish, Dutch, and British influences can still be felt in Kerala's architecture, customs and cuisine. The center of this unique cultural melting pot has always been the old town of Fort Cochin - where Fort House Hotel is located.
