BIKANER Founded in 1488 by Rao
Bikaji, a descendant of the founder of Jodhpur, Rao Jodh, Bikaner, is the royal
walled city, on the northern most point on the triangle of desert cities. This city
is bolstered by 7KM long imposing walls, with 5 entrance gate built in the 18th century. The
fort and palace, made of the same reddish-pink sandstone lies outside the city walls. A
region coveted by several Rajput clans, Bikaner is well
known as the land of the finest riding camels, in the world.

WHAT TO
SEE JUNAGARH FORT:-
This
fort, with 96 meter long wall with 37 bastions and two entrances, was built by raja
Raj
Singh, a general in the army of the
Mughal Emperor Akbar, between 1588 and 1593. The sun gate is he main
entrance of the fort. The places of interest, include the Durga Niwas, which
is a handsomely painted courtyard, and the Gang Niwas, another large courtyard, which sports a finely carved red sandstone front. Top

BREEDING FARM:-
This is the unique centre of its nature in India. This was setup to produce Superior strains of camels both
for domestic haulage as well as, even today, for military use. One
of the efforts is to breed camels with longer, thicker eyelashes
to offer greater protection during sandstorms.
Bhandeshwar Jain Temples : This
temple is dedicated to the 23rd tirthankar parashvanathji. The Bhaironji temple
of kodemsar, about 40kms from Bikaner is another popular site. Top Ganga Golden Jubilee Museum:- This has one of the richest collections of
terracota war weapons and miniature painting of the Bikaner school. KALIBANGA:- Remains of the pre-Harappan and Harappan
civilizations have
been found here, in Hanumangarh district. FESTIVAL: Camel Festival:-A once-in-a-lifetime experience. A spectacle of unusual
camel performances - camel races, camel dances, and the unforgettable camel
rides. The festival is held in the month of January every year on the full moon
night. Kolayatji fair:-Held in October-November at Kolayat. devotees throng to
take a holy dip in the Kolayat Lake on the full moon of Kartik or Poornima and
offer prayers to Karni Mata. Top
