JODHPUR Known as 'SUN CITY',
nested in the depths of the Thar desert, is the stronghold of the Rathore clan,
the capital of the former princely state of Marwar.The town was once known as
Marwar, which means 'Hands of Death'. Probably, referring to harsh desert
climate. It is an island of marble places, cordoned off from the desert by an
immense wall, with eight gates facing different directions. It was founded
in1459 by Rao Jodha who claimed descent from Lord Rama and gradually grew around
the towering fort. A flourishing trading centre in the 16th century Jodhpur is
still one of the leading centers of wool, cattle, camels and slt. WHAT TO SEE MEHRANGARH
One of the Rajasthan's three
greatest hilltop forts, MEHRANGARH,is located at the very center of the city and
visible from the surrounding areas. It is spreaded over 5km on perpendicular
hills and looking down from a height of about 125 meters, the fort appears
rugged and impenetrable from the outside. Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal,Sheesh Mahal,
Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana are gems of architecture that make the regal
splendor come alive and view some of palan quins, howdahs, royal cradles,

PALACE:- Built
in 20th century, this palace is quite western in its design. It was a famine
relief project which gave employment to people for 16 years. its interior
decoration is in the art deco style. In fact, it is one of the finest surviving
example of art deco in the world. The palace now runs as a hotel, though, a part

MANDOR
The
old capital of Marwar lies 9 km of Jodhpur. The gardens of Mandor also house the
royal cenotaphs or 'dewals' of Maharajas, including Maharaja Jaswant Singh and
impressive temple-shaped memorial to maharaja Ajit Singh "the hall of
heroes" with sixteen gigantic figures curved out of single rock and
depicting popular Hindu and folk deities and the cenotaphs of the Maharajas of
Jodhpur. The shrines of 33 crore gods is pointed with figures of gods, spirits

LAKE:- This placid artificial lake has a summer palace on its embankment. The palace
was built in 1159 A.D. by "Balak Rao Parihar".it is popular picnic

largest group of early Jain and Hindu temples, dating from 8th to 11th century,
lies on the outskirts of the small town of osian,55 km of Jodhpur. Each one is
